How about you make your army. Give it food. And tell it where to go (or place some kind of flag where you want it to get to).

It will march there itself, taking the same amount of time (or longer) than it would were you to march it there manually.

To stop an armies march, players of the opposing city could put up barricades (or engage the army with their own army) (Or simply stand in the same location as the enemy army?).

The marching cities players would then have to destroy the barricade to allow their army to continue its march.

This would make warfare much better because it would eliminate the boring and tedious process of marching location by location.

It would also give city scouts something to do because when a senator/master/captain logs on a tell from a scout could be received informing them that an enemy army is marching.
Someone mentioned this a while ago (it might have been you). It was taken to Zycandos who gave it a thumbs-down, sorry.

Whoops, sorry. On the bright side, you can actually know the reasoning while all one of our forum posters writhe in ignorance.

        • Now if I knew the reasoning as to why I'm imagining replying to people, and not actually doing the one thing I'm semi-capable at :I

          • Ok idea here.

I was thinking, what if there was something you could buy in the credits section that allowed you to switch guilds without losing your level of skill. For example, someone with all three guild skills at unsurpassable could switch to a new guild and still have all three unsurpped at their new guild.

Once you have bought this thing, the character you bought it for will have it for life. But to prevent out of control guild hopping, it would only be able to be used once every real life month or two.

If you change guilds once every real life month, you have a serious problem.

              • Yes, you do have a problem if you change guilds that often. But for the odd time you do change guilds, or if you were thinking of trying out one or two other guilds before you die, something like that would lessen the trauma of switching to a new guild. (:

I... would buy this... because I could potentially have a problem... if I had this wonderful thing to buy.

                  • I believe someone has already brought this idea up once before, but since I noticed armies were on topic for a moment I figured I could go ahead and do it again.
I don't think moving armies should be changed, I actually think that it should be made that if the captain of the army leaves the location while the army is moving it will stop. I'm sure we all have had our share of times where someone has started marching and just ran back to their city or bulletin boarded while doing, it takes away the combat associated with warfare. I wouldn't mind seeing something like spies or something to that extent, say the spy goes in and steals a small amount of commodities (varying) for a price. If the spy is caught, I believe they should be a little sneaky but not to the point where a city could just send in an army of spies and clear out a trade center. Say, "You see someone sneaking through the location" then you would know it was there without a dire hassle on never seeing them. Also these could be a guard that has to be recruited and each city could only have one spy at a time. Perhaps this could even become a port for a village who you can hire a spy for your city. This could even be branched off for them to tell you how many soldiers in total or armies in total that a city has, just being able to see how much damage has been inflicted on a cities harbor would be nice and all of which could all come from this same idea. Outside of that though, I don't think the marching and things like that need to be altered much in the least. Though I still really think you should have to be in the location with the army to make them move, it would boost cities -needing- to work together to do something and it would give some of our more combat friendly players something to do if they were at war. I have seen so many times where people will run off after being killed for marching and crying that its breaking our pvp rules, so this would in turn fix it in a way. Just a little food for thought more than ideas.

Were it not for the fact that each of the three cities takes its turn at having exactly zero citizens present for hours at a time, I would voice support for this (or something similar). While I am hardly the final judge on things like this, I will say that it is very likely a no-go for the foreseeable future.

                        • A player had an idea. All in favour say aye. All opposed, continue to lurk and not contribute:

I would like to see more mobile npcs. Like Lovendo, or the boy in Welsbury? Some could stay in certain areas, and others could be left to wander at their own pleasure. They could be town criers, or random messengers.

Bounty hunters... Just about anything you wanted, really. Each could be associated with a particular small quest. It wouldn't necessarily have to influence a village. If they didn't offer a quest, they could do other things- call out the current time..."It is half past the ninth hour!", announce that the lottery only has three months remaining, etc. Some could make random comments about the location or history about the town they are located in..." even make comments towards a person who enter the same location as them. If they have animosity towards you, they could cry out, "My revenge shall be sweet!" and the like, before launching their attack on you."

                          • More mobile and responsive NPCs would be fantastic, let's see...

                            • I love the idea of spies for both city and personal use.

This could be taken in multiple different ways. You could add a runic combination and create one 'rune' which would listen to all things that are said in a particular area. It would have a certain amount of time before it expired.

One could hire out spies in a very similar way to how merchant classes hire their guards. 3 silver for every month and you'd hire him out for 10 days? Well... if said spy is caught or killed, you lost the gold and can then rehire another. Interesting with this idea is you might want to hire multiple spies... I think Jaethor was asking about ways we as mortals would like to spend our coin? Maybe i am off, but oh well.

I think a Spy command would be very interesting. SPY Sabatoge caravan; spy sabatoge military. Spy Steal Commodities. All of the previous examples would mean that Player had ordered spy to hide in a certain area... and if caravan/military/ person enters it... there would be a small percentage that spy was caught, or mission was successful. For the most part though, spies wouldn't interfere with everyday life...

An even more interesting idea to this, is make a spy skill set. I'd love to see the assassins have a skill set like this. Almost very close in relationship to the Shadow ability, but a more physical presence.

                              Order spy follow Filch
                              Order spy hide
                              Order spy camouflage
                              Order spy assassinate citizen

Just like all other skill sets, the more you dedicate to it, the more you gain. However, the more difficult the procedure... the more costly the request is, and the higher chance for getting caught.

I know this idea is only somewhat correlated with the above spies conversation... but this is my take on it.

New idea served up from the kitchenstaff of Akanbar:

                                A new construct item: Signs

Now, I would want it to be a construct item so cities can't get sign happy. That's my demand.
