From my most experience in playing the game, the player base has been generally disappointing. It's not at the level of maturity one would expect from a community, especially a small one. Being harassed and seeing players (from all factions) harassing each other on the out-of-character level was just an unsettling experience for me. So bad that it left a pretty horrible aftertaste after every session. It's been fun and the game had such great potential after the changes it underwent, but I don't think it's worth the drama put up by the players. I wish there was a better solution to resolving the issue with the behaviors of the players (won't give out names), and I know that if this continues. It will drive out the newer players eventually. And this always has been an issue I have had with Akanbar in the past as well. So... without further adieu. I'm taking a step back. Later guys.
So much truth. LOVE YOU BRO.

    • Issues regarding players deliberately setting out to ruin others' enjoyment of the game need to be brought before a god if there is any expectation of them being solved. HELP FAIRPLAY and HELP MATURITY are two in-game help files to keep in mind, among others. If you are harassed by another player on a level that is beyond reasonable in-character conflict, report it.

HAAHA! So... nobody sees a problem with this? I mean, I march 4 guards (2 guards/2 wardens) and David and Malic leave Roeshak to die. I have no problem with this... I actually think it is exactly what Golgonath would do. However, the guards/wardens loose their targets and instead of WALKING back to their posts, they just POOF. Thus leaving Malic and David to come in and claim their victory. I have no care, absolutely NO CARE that i died. What I think is SO funny, is how the supposed counter to my original proposal is that it would stop all drama/conflict when there is already so little. Doesn't look like it from here...

I mean seriously? HOW STUPID ARE THE GUARDS!? It isn't like marching the guards is all that fast of a process. Can they "march" back? Something should be changed here. I feel it is retarded and a flat out abuse to the game. Captains/Praetor of the Military, whatever position you hold, if you are DEFENDING, you are supposed to be rewarded for doing so. That is the point? that is why we have the ability to march guards? IT is supposed to deter the raiders. Not make it Impossible. However, I find myself fighting more with my own guards than I fighting the opposition. Obviously it isn't impossible, 4 raiders cleared a room of 7/8 guards with on death and Killed me.

Yes, we are rewarded. Isn't it great, you march your guards together, constantly move them within the 4 locations that are available to the defender and then David rides in on his mighty horse circles 1 or 2 times and poof gone. Poof! there goes the guards. It'd be mildly better IF i could dismount him on command, instead I have a random chance that my golem will do so, then I still have to hope that he doesn't get summoned out of there.

Maybe a solution to this. Add something to the game that allows individuals to MAKE others sip dispersion, or allow us another item similar to Azure crystals but makes it impossible for others to be summoned from the location. I don't know. There are countless work arounds to this...

Like I said. I personally feel that this is an abuse. It undermines the effort of the Defender. The captain is supposed to have an advantage. This... abuse takes that advantage away. It should also be noted that only three people in the whole city can march guards (aside fro Ysallyra that gets 4) There is a limitation on the number of this for the exact reason that raiding isn't Impossible all the time.

I still need to get better. I know this... it is just annoying. I mean, Hell! I still did really well in my book. Each time I was involved I killed one of your raiding party? It is whatever though. Comments are of course welcome. I know this post is a lot of yelling and has a lot of emotion in it....

On an ending note, I want it to be known that this isn't directed at any of the players. If 'I' could do it, and the game allowed me to do it... I would do it as well... It is simple. Why face a larger force if you don't have to. I also don't mean to direct this at the Divine. This is the complaint thread, that is what this is, simply a complaint.

        • They return to their post because you have them guarding another location. I see your argument, but I still think the max one can/should be able to march is five at a time(outside a city), yet I see you marching all ten constantly. Yes, sure I see your complaint, but you should also not be using guards to march as an offense as their primary duty is to "defend". Lord Aten told me once that if guards march in they are not meant to attack until you attack those guards first, but either that got changed or just is not happening anymore. I am positive though, you are only meant to have five guards per room outside of the city, yet both cities are guilty of marching groups together(namely because its possible to do so.). Next time, instead of marching defensive minded guards on a group of three or four.....try attacking the group? Its already tough as is to handle as a small group.

          Complaint:

You, Oskar, and Kinzie did the very same thing versus me when the one time I was able to defend. They both left you to die the very same way........remember? The guards went back to their spots they were guarding and you all went to Elysium. The guards are not dumb, they are just defenders of their "guarded" area and paid well to do so. As Golgonath's Master of War, surely tricks should be expected from such a person at that position along with their Captain, no? I argue that marching guards is actually tooooo fast of a process and can be done easily by command stacking(no balance to issue a guard march.) Marching 5 npcs of level 40-42 is quite a powerful feat....

          To each their own.....

To this... I have been under the impression that if a raid is occurring or suspected, the captain/Military Leader can march guards within all three tower location and the one directly outside of it. I have never marched more than 5 guards outside of the 4 locations described above.

(The exception to this is when I am marching guards from the towers back to the barracks and then guards from the barracks to the towers with the explicit purpose of ordering them to Guard. This hasn't ever been a problem though. The 1 time it ever happened was when David walked in when I was marching three guards back to the barracks. 1 guard from each tower. Still, the most i think i have marched for this purpose is 6.)

I believe you yourself said on these forums something along the lines that a great defense is a good offense. I am not using your own words against you, what I mean to say is this: I am trying to make the guards and their locations unpredictable. Hoping that at one point you would think they are all in the top of the tower, then as you or Malic come in to charge/snake, you'd be confronted with (x) amount of guards. This obviously hasn't worked more than maybe once.

As for the rest of your post, or your complaint rather. I have no problem with you sacrificing Roeshak. In fact, i think it is a very in character and very Golgonath like. I thought I said as much? As for Kinzie and Oskar, the same thing was done where I sacrificed my life in the hopes of saving theirs. Essentially it is the same thing, but the difference is perspective. As you two are both Masters (David, Malic) you sacrificed the less important citizen. This is obviously 'my' perspective. It is entirely possible that Roeshak volunteered, still. I have no problem with this either. Being captain, I ordered Oskar and Kinzie to flee, valuing their lives above my own. With Oskar and Kinzie getting away, I just assumed that they had walked the one more location out so they were not adjacent to the guards.

The original complaint of the guards/wardens losing target and then returning to their original post still stands. At this point, although it will always annoy me, I will accept that this is how it is and adjust. No further complaints will be posted in regards to this topic. I have said what I wished to say within the Complaint Thread.

            • Greetings,

I do not often post in this interesting thread that I dream of being inactive, but perhaps I should step in.

I sincerely hope that you all do not realize that you sound like a gathering of children when you post here, because if you do, I am sorely disappointed. I do not care if your post is an irk such as "There are not enough quests" or "There are no organization-specific channels". That is to say, however, that lately, this thread has become where you complain about players and where you passive aggressively rant about the enemy. If you have a problem with someone, if you believe something is being abused, speak to an adult like an adult; do not post here.

I do not care for this thread as I have stated, but if it is to live and not be removed, you all need to grow up and act like the adults that the game insists you be. The forums is viewed not only by players, but also by prospective players and if I were to be browsing for a new mud and see this kind of immaturity and blatant whining, I would move on. It is disgraceful and I expect better from you. I do not want to police the forums as they are an outlet for mortals to come together as a community, but if the community that participates in the forums is going to be detrimental to Akanbar's image as well as harmful to the rest of the players, I will not hesitate to do so.

What I said goes across for every single city, every single player who has decided that their hatred of someone should sink into the out-of-character realm. I am well aware of who has been doing this as of late and, should you continue, there will be punishment.

              Signed,
              Jaethor

              • Voice your issues here, not in the thread which offends you.
When I originally created this thread, I believe it was because I was tired of the ideas that were filled more with complaints than interesting ideas. It was this detriment to the thread(s) that caused this to be born. Since then I've seen the original purpose, admittedly an unclear one though I did not anticipate people for the lack of a better term: 'perverting' my original intention... whatever that was.
                With this:
The forums is viewed not only by players, but also by prospective players and if I were to be browsing for a new mud and see this kind of immaturity and blatant whining, I would move on. It is disgraceful and I expect better from you.
This forum IS frequented by potential players, people probably find it through google, and you CAN read this forum without a membership, without playing the game, without even making a character. This whole thread group 'Mug of Mead' is completely readable, you cannot post in it, but it is readable all the same.

I'm wanting to outline some rules, but that's probably too little too late. I did not open this thread for people to harp on specific things that are, as some have stated, completely out of their control, such as the current beef over the guards not 'defending properly'.
I'd rather the thread be shut down. The posts at the beginning were 'complaint ideas' like something to do with the brigand's key. This stopped at some point, when people started taking things personally.

I can maybe see a reason why, people are investing time/energy into their actions on the mud, and people for example like myself 'quest blocking' by repeatedly killing dwarves or Arkad, will get people very angry at me as a person, and not as a player.

I want to state this right now:
I DO NOT HAVE A BEEF WITH ANYONE PERSONALLY. I'm acting in purely a player to player action. I kill Tuireann not to screw you over as a person, but to screw you over as a character. I'm not out to ruin... who ever is behind Ashrabia. I'm/Pyrok is out to destroy Ashrabia because that's just how conflict works. He's an Elysian, I'm a Golgonian I'm SUPPOSED to make his life difficult. To me at least.

If you have a problem with an INDIVIDUAL take it to forum messages, if it can't be resolved there, well... frankly, welcome to reality, you can't expect everyone to play nice with you, there are going to be assholes, douche-bags and just generally disappointing people in life.

So let's just go back to complaint styled ideas please? Where it was normal?

TL;DR: I agree with Jaethor. Please grow up and stop perverting my thread. This isn't what I intended it for.

I know... He actually managed to kill me the other day, and I wasn't even tanking him... Total crap... Seriously, he spammed his flame attack like 7 times in a row... Returned as Undead, and died again, almost instantly... Poor Miri had to fend for herself until I got back lol.

                          • Oh, I'm not saying I don't mind a challenge. Especially when I'm trying something that is a challenge to someone with Decent internet, and I'm still in Afghanistan on very very very sh***y connection... Makes me feel more accomplished when I actually manage to handle it with little to no problems. However, I always end up running into that ENORMOUS lag spike that, by the time it's over, leaves me dead dead dead. Hazards of the job, eh?

                              • I think he should be challenging but not insane, like when we were competing for Khazir Oskar would fall to dangerous levels and have to stop attacking and verse life to stay alive no matter the group size. That was challenging in my opinion.

Besides we have that mountain no one regularly visits with the insane monsters.
